Obituary of Gregory Earl Fidler
Gregory Earl Fidler (“Fid”) passed away June 13, surrounded by loving family after a difficult battle with cancer, just days after reaching his 60th birthday. Son to Tom & the late Merle Fidler, brother to Elaine(Pete) Lake and Gini (late Roger) Sider. Husband of 39 years to Colleen (nee Fretz). Dad to Bradley (Melissa) Fidler, Lindsay (Roman) Haljkevic and Victoria (Victor) Sa. Papa to Joel, Owen, Lukas, Simon, Sofia, Ben, Isaac and Eden. Active member of Port Colborne BIC church.
Anyone who knew Fid has a story or two to tell. He will always be remembered as a great storyteller who loved to make everyone around him laugh. His lasting legacy, beyond his family, is the impact he made on youth throughout his life. Since his early 20’s, Greg was a father figure to youth wherever he was: counsellor at Camp Kahquah’s Teen Camp, youth ministry volunteer at Houghton BIC Church, Youth for Christ director in Tillsonburg, Residence Director at his alma mater Niagara Christian Collegiate in Fort Erie, and Director of Youth Ministry at Port Colborne BIC Church at the young age of 57. Beyond that, he loved volunteering in local high schools: coaching football, soccer and volleyball, directing drama productions, and helping kids develop their reading skills. The weeks before his passing were filled with messages of support and encouragement from scores of people around the world whose lives had been impacted by Greg in their youth.
The family would like to thank: Dr. Yelamanchili and the Walker Clinic team for all their efforts; Dr. Che for his compassionate care over Greg’s final weeks; Becky and the team of nurses at Paramed and the PSW’s at Bayshore for their excellent care; Pastor Brian Lofthouse and the Port Colborne BIC Church family for their incredible support; and every friend and family member who offered messages of support, prayers and meals. We have felt incredibly loved and supported throughout this journey. Thank you all.
