Bowen: Wilfred Fletcher
Wil left us on Thursday March 8th, 2018 at the Douglas Memorial Hospital, Fort Erie in his 91st year.
Born in Meriden, Connecticut, USA to Annette Hamelin and Joseph Bowen. Predeceased by his brother Robert Bowen and nephew Jon Gariepy, and by his first wife Helen Brodeur.
Survived by his second wife, Grace (Szarka) Bowen, and by his three sons Wilfred Bowen Jr., Ronald Bowen and Thomas Bowen. Also by his sister Janet (Bowen) Sprude and nieces and nephews. As well Wil is survived by his grandchildren Gregory Bowen, Michael Bowen, Jeremy Bowen, Thomas Bowen Jr., Christopher Bowen, Iain Bowen and Emma Bowen and great-granddaughter Avalyn Bowen. Step-father to Frank Szarka and Michael Szarka and step-grandfather to Olivia Casemore, Kathleen Szarka and Brianna Simone.
Wilfred was a WW II veteran who joined the US Navy at the age of seventeen.
A tool and die maker by trade, Wil was an avid fisherman, and an accomplished musician, in his youth a member of the Yalesville Fife and Drum Corps; later as a player and tutor of the Highland Bagpipes.
Wil was an organizer, a civil war enthusiast, a reader, a raconteur who was never at a loss for words.

Arrangements by Benner Funeral Home, at Wil's request cremation has taken place. A celebration of Wil's life will take place at a later date.
