Obituary of Mickey McDermott
McDERMOTT, Irvine (Mickey) - It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved "gentle giantâ€, Mickey, at Douglas Memorial Hospital on February 11th.
Mickey was the much loved husband of Sandy (Davis). Proud and wonderful father to sons, Glenn (Kathy) and Bob (Kandy) and his daughter Janis (Robert) Coulis as well as Don Davis, Pam Salvador and Cindy (Brian) Meaney.
He will also be missed by his sister Sally (Tom) Littlewood, brother-in-law Jim McColman, sister-in-law Gerry (Eric) Sahli and brothers-in-law Dave (Barb) and Denny (Carol) Hutton.
He was predeceased by his first wife Mary Lou (McColman)
For over three decades Mickey was the owner of McDermott Plumbing and Heating, servicing all of the, then, major factories as well as hundreds of domestic accounts in town. To further the industry, Mickey, a Master Plumber, apprenticed most of the plumbers in Fort Erie. He was a well-respected businessman, treating his clients with honesty and integrity.
A great family man, he has for the past while been living vicariously through the experiences, adventures, golf games and travels of his much loved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, of whom he was very proud.
Mickey was very athletic, excelling in baseball and golf. He was proud to have played shortstop for the Horton Steel Sr. A team that won the all-Ontario finals in 1950. That team met annually for over fifty years to retell their "storiesâ€. His other interests included gardening and travelling.
