Obituary of Phyllis Edith Wilkinson
WILKINSON, Phyllis Edith (nee Bush)
"Fast Phyl"
Start Line: August 5th, 1918
Finish Line: March 27th, 2019
Phyllis won at the race of life, peacefully crossing the finish line in her 101st year, surrounded by those that loved her deeply and were cheering her on.
Phyllis was a proud member of the community in Fort Erie since her families immigration from England in 1920. She dedicated her working years first to Horton Steel, then to the family business, Wilkinson Plumbing, until her retirement at 90 years old.
Devoted wife of the late Harry Wilkinson, who she ardently referred to as "Happy Harry".
Welcoming her at the pearly gates are her brothers and predecessors, Eric and Harry, whom she spoke about often, and with adoration.
She will be sorely missed, but fondly remembered and always respected, by her children Rick and Linda Wilkinson, Sue Keating and Jane Matthews. Deeply loved and cherished by her grandchildren, William, Brett, Katie (Tracy), Timothy (Greg) and Sean (Tricia), whom she had close and special relationships with over the years. Phyllis always enjoyed time with her great grandchildren, Brody, Colbie, Beau and Jacob.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Phyllis' dear friend and companion, Colleen Listhaeghe. The time they spent together over the past few years was special and deeply appreciated by both Phyllis and her family.
A big thank you to the team at Gilmore Lodge, and Garrison Place. Your kindness, compassion and caring was paramount to the quality of life Phyllis enjoyed over the past 5 years when she transitioned from her home, into care, at 95. A special thank you to the Gilmore Lodge, Bridgeburg House Staff on Unit 3 who were exceptional in providing end of life care to Phyllis over the past week. You are amazing.
The family wishes to acknowledge and thank Dr. Claudius Che for his caring and compassion. Phyllis adored you, thank you for ensuring she passed with dignity.
At Phyllis' request, funeral arrangements entrusted to Benner Funeral Services, Fort Erie. A celebration of her life will take place on Monday, April 1st at 11:00am at St. Paul's Anglican Church, Fort Erie, where Phyllis was a devoted member for 98 years. The service will be followed by her being layed to rest in the St Paul's Anglican Churchyard Cemetery, where she will be reunited with her loving family, with a reception to follow in the St Paul's Church Hall. A memorial bench will be installed by The Town of Fort Erie on the Friendship Trail on Lakeshore Road close to the home Phyllis lived in for almost 45 years.
