Obituary of Hellmuth Berger
BERGER, Hellmuth - It is with deep sadness that our family announces the passing of Hellmuth Berger after he bravely endured a four month struggle with illness. He was a devoted husband to Caroline (nee Webb) for 55 years and a dear and loving father to Robert, Suzanne, Patrick and Elizabeth. He was an affectionate and friendly father-in-law to Annette, Katherine, Paul, and Sarosh and was delighted with his 10 wonderful grandchildren, Christopher, Gianna, Nicholas, Stephanie, Elena, Connor, Isaak, Lilly, Sam and Max.
Hellmuth (Hal) was born on December 30, 1928 in Salzburg, Austria to Johann and Rosa Berger. He immigrated to Canada in 1951 and lived in Niagara Falls where there were several families he knew from Austria. Over the next few years he took different jobs until he was proficient in English and had saved enough money to go to University. He graduated in Electrical Engineering from Michigan Tech in 1959. While at St. Lawrence Cement Co., in Clarkson he met the love of his life, Caroline. On June 29, 1963 they married. Hal's employment in the cement, mining and steel industries took them to many locations in Canada, the United States and South Africa. Hal was a highly respected engineer, working in a career that he loved and in which he took great pride. In his leisure time he liked reading, researching science articles on the internet and morning walks along the Niagara River with his dog Scottie. He also enjoyed summer trips to the cottage, especially if the children and grandchildren were there. He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.
Benner Funeral Services (1105 Benner Ave., Fort Erie) has been entrusted with arrangements. Cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors on Sunday, December 2nd from 1-2 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life in the Chapel at 2 o'clock.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made to Parkinson Canada or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by his family.
