Obituary of Muriel Matthews

December 17, 1929-January 1, 2014-On New Year's Day Muriel Matthews (nee Shearing) left this earthly world to join her husband Baden for a dance in heaven. Muriel was the loving mother of Paul (Trevor), Bill (Nadine) and Kim (Brian). She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren- Ryan, Derek, Madison, Payton and Parker. Muriel is also survived by her sister Dorothy Cole, brother Lloyd (Bonnie) Shearing, sister-in-law Betty Courier and brother-in-law Bob Matthews. She was predeceased by her brothers Arnold and Jack, brothers-in-law Bruce and Billy and sisters-in-law Maureen, Barb, Olga and Gladys. Muriel enjoyed her career as a nurse and obstetrics was her passion. She finished her career at Douglas Memorial Hospital, where she assisted in many births and was a comfort to many. Many thanks to those that made her final years comfortable, the staff of Maple Park Lodge and also Daisy Midgley, who was the best companion we could have hoped for. Visitation will be held at Benner Funeral Services, 1105 Benner Ave. Fort Erie on Friday the 10th of January from 4-6 pm. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday January 11th at All Saints Anglican Church (149 South Mill St. Ridgeway) at 1pm. If one wishes , donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Society or All Saints Anglican Church.
