Obituary of Michael L George
Michael Louis George, a lifelong resident of Fort Erie, passed away peacefully at the Hotel Dieu Shaver Hospital on July 12, 2024, at the age of 88.
Michael was born on August 2, 1935, to Eugene and Anna George, loving parents who immigrated from Hungary in 1928.
Michael was predeceased by his adoring wife, Margaret. For over half a century, they built a loving partnership that became the foundation for their family, instilling strong values that continue to shape the lives of their loved ones. Michael was the proud father to Greg (Pam) George, Geoff (Luanna) George, Edward George, and the late Jenna (Fred) Louws. He will be deeply missed by his grandchildren Daniel (Samantha), Sarah (Chris), Maggie (Roy), Andrew (Samantha), Lauren, Erica, Vanessa, Megan, and Jackson, as well as his great-granddaughter Georgie. Michael is predeceased by his brother and sisters, John, Helen, and Anna; and survived by his brother Fred (Illi) George and his extended George and Kranics families, with whom he made countless memories.
Michael attended the University of Windsor and Osgoode Hall Law School, embarking on a distinguished 65-year career in law. His commitment to his clients and community was unwavering. He was known for his willingness to listen, offer thoughtful advice, and make a meaningful impact on the lives of many. He was deeply grateful to his dedicated staff, whose support allowed him to pursue his passion and serve his community with excellence.
Michael was known as a deep thinker with strong convictions, guided by his faith and a commitment to service. He had a gregarious presence and was a trusted counselor to many. Michael and Margaret’s home, defined by warmth and love, was always filled with friends and family, embodying their generosity. Nothing brought him more joy than enjoying the company of his children and grandchildren, whether on family vacations, engaging in lively dinner debates or playing competitive card games. His quick mind, sharp wit, and generous spirit left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Michael spent his last month at Hotel Dieu Shaver, surrounded by family and friends. In his final days, he found joy in simple pleasures – smelling the flowers, sharing stories and singing along to his favourite songs. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated medical team at Shaver for their compassionate care.
Visitation will be held at Benner Funeral Home in Fort Erie on Friday, July 19, 2024 1-3 pm and 6-8 pm. A funeral service will take place at St. Michael’s Church in Fort Erie on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at 11 am, with family and friends invited to gather at 10:15 am.
