I was sorry to hear of Wayne's passing. I have lived outside of Canada since 1980. I saw a post on the Malvern site.
Wayne too was one of the Blantyre boys as was I. We lived on the west side of Blantyre from Linton. We lived 3 houses apart. We played many, many hours of street hockey both before and after it was paved. Wayne was always a fierce competitor. We went to Blantyre PS and then on to Malvern. I was a couple of years ahead.
One hot summer as we did we went with his cousin to what the older generation than us called the Jelly beans. This the big open land from Gerrard up to the Danforth. Full of stones, bolders and stagnant ponds. A great place for kids to tear around. This we did coming back dirty and sweaty.
A week later, I did not see Wayne. Wayne's mum knocked on our door to tell us that Wayne was in the hospital and they suspected it was polio. Wayne's cousin also had it.
Ad you know it affected Wayne more than his cousin. I did not get polio.
Much later Wayne was able to return home with a permanent limp.
All the parents along Blantyre forbade their kids to play in the Jelly beans as the full cause and transmission of Polio was not well known.
My belated condolences to Wayne's family and friends. From one of the Boys of Blantyre to another, Wayne. Rest well you fighter.

So many happy memories from when our kids Jason and Kerry played hockey and lacrosse together. Used to love our visits to your home on Fallingbrook, whilst the kids had fun playing together. I remember the time we took the whole Beaches Lacrosse team ( peewee I think) to Windsor in three cars. Staying at the ABC motel. Just us four, Wayne, Pat, me and Paul. Good times. Pat, Kerry, Ryan and Kristi I am so very sorry for your loss. Wayne touched so many people’s lives. He was a good man. Thinking of you all at this very sad time. Julie Clark.

Wayne and I were remembering this trip a few months ago when Wayne could still speak. We had quite a laugh about it. I’m not sure if it was the same trip. We had a few players with us. It was a hot day and a long trip. The car windows were open wide. 1 player was looking after the map. I can’t remember his name. He was always in trouble. Wayne kept saying Hang onto the map. Of course it went out the car window. We had a heck of a time finding you and Paul and the rink!

Dear Pat, Kristi, Kerry & Ryan,
Saddened to hear of Wayne’s passing. He fought really hard with all of you by his side. I will always have fond memories growing up and seeing him on Rangeline come in from work and say “hey how ya doin kid” while holding his Pepsi. Always smiling and genuinely happy to see you. Rest in peace Mr. Jackson, Go Leafs!
