Obituary of Lois Hill
Lois Abigail Hill (nee Powless)
July 6th, 1938 to March 8th, 2024
Peacefully at her second home at the Kettle Stony Point First Nation, and surrounded by her children, Lois-kenha went home to once again be with her husband Clark-gë:ö and sons, Hughie-kenha, Dean-kenha Lance-kenha, Gene-kenha and granddaughter Kelsey-kenha and grandson Owen Mark-kenha, on Friday March 8th, 2024. She was 85 years old. Lois is remembered and loved by her surviving children Darryl, Derek (Lana), Tammy (Patrick Harris), Sam and Verna (Jonathon George), as well as her sister Margeurite and close friend Eleanor. Lois is Totah to grandchildren, Daniel, Darren, Kathy, Margaret, Helen Lois, Valerie, JR, Boomer, Dean C.J., Lance II, Dawnalyn, Darryl, Dustine, Dean E.C., Joselyn, Megan, Corrie, Max, Aaron, Chase, Amber, Louis, Cameron, Sterling, and Lindsay Alexis; great grandmother to several great-grandchildren; and auntie to many nieces and nephews. Lois is predeceased by her parents Sam and Leah Powless, and siblings Harvey, Lenore, Delmont, Winnie, Merle, Willis, Marvin, Melvin, Dolly, and Jim. Between the ages of 6 and 12 Lois attended the Mohawk Institute Indian Residential School. Lois and Clark moved to Fort Erie in 1968 where they settled and raised their family. Lois was a longtime member of the Fort Erie Native Friendship Center Board of Directors. She also had a strong and enduring desire to help people, and in pursuit of that goal successfully completed the Native Counselling and Training program at Laurentian University. Lois was an avid golfer and softball player and loved (and hated) the Toronto Blue Jays! When she wasn’t cheering for the Blue Jays she could be found watching her family play in the Stevensville Slow Pitch League where she was fondly known as the “Commissioner”. Arrangements have been entrusted to Benners Funeral Services, 1105 Benner Ave, Fort Erie. Visitation and viewing will be on Monday March 11th, 2024 from 1pm to 3pm and 7pm to 9pm, with refreshments at the Fort Erie Native Friendship Centre 796 Buffalo Rd, Fort Erie from 4pm to 6pm. The funeral service will commence at 10:55am on Tuesday March 12, 2024, at Benners Funeral Services, with interment at Greenwood Cemetery, 1900 Thompson Rd, Fort Erie where she will be laid to rest alongside her husband Clark. Following the interment refreshments will once again be served at the Fort Erie Native Friendship Centre. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Team Kelsey at www.teamkelsey.ca
