Obituary of Donald Lubberts
It is with heavy hearts to announce the passing of Donald George Lubberts on February 13, 2024 at the age of 67. Adoring best friend and companion to Gayle Martineau and her son Josh. The youngest of 12 siblings. He is survived by Ali Pol, John Lubberts, Jack Lubberts, Cindy (Ken) Grant, Rika Lubberts, Linda (Paul) Hartman, Fred (Marilou) Lubberts, Mary Riel and numerous nieces , nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his father(Arend) and mother (Klazina), sister Geraldine Docker, brothers Garrit and Albert Lubberts.
Donnie was an electrician with K. Riel Electric Ltd. until retirement, a councillor for the Town of Fort Erie for 12 years and very dedicated to his constituents and never hesitated to help anyone even when they were not in his Ward. Donnie and the Fab Four were instrumental in saving Bay Beach for the public. He served his community as President of The Friends of Crystal Beach, Waverly Round Table, Niagara Coastal Community Collaborative, and EAC-Environmental Advisory Community with the Town of Fort Erie.
Donnie was a very sociable guy and was liked by all. Fishing, boating, and golf were his passions. He loved animals and sat on the Fort Erie SPCA Board for many years and was very proud of the work the SPCA did for the community and was forever rescuing stray cats.
In the last few years Donnie battled long and hard with his health issues and was grateful to the Toronto General Hospital and all his Doctors and nurses in the CVICU even joking sometimes calling him the “Bionic Man”
Donnie will be dearly missed by all his family, friends and acquaintances.
Visitation will be held at Williams Funeral Services, 722 Ridge Rd. N., Ridgeway, on Monday, February 19, 2024 from 1-3 pm and 6-8 pm. A Funeral Service will be held in the Williams Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at 11:00 am. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Fort Erie SPCA-(forteriespca.org or drop off at 410 Jarvis St. Fort Erie).
