Obituary of Harry "Hap" Gooder
Harry John Campbell Gooder known to many as Hap. Why me Lord, what did I ever do to deserve loving you? On December 19, 2023 Jesus reached out his hand and took Hap home. Leaving behind, with a broken heart, his loving wife and best friend Jean (Mab's), of almost 40 years. It all started when Hap offered her a stick of juicy fruit gum.
Loving father to Jen Gooder (Darron), Bill Gooder (Tammy) and Loving Papa to Damien, Brandon (Marc), Austin (Tyler), Alyssa, Abbey and Ashlyn. Much loved step father to The Cline boys, Vance (Shelley), Jason (Jodi) and Todd (Marissa). Adored by his step grandchildren Emily, Madison, Jayden (Deryk), Teagan, Addi and Kian. Hap loved all his grandchildren, but anyone that knew him knew he had a special bond with his grandson Brycen Cline. They loved each other “to the moon and back”.
Survived by his sisters Barb and Linda, his brothers Jimmy (Lynn), Bruce and Doug (Sandy). Uncle to Chris, April, Casey, Carson and Royce.
Predeceased by his parents, Harry and Florence (White) Gooder, and his nephew Kelly.
Brother-in-law and best friend to Jim Winger and his wife Cathy. Special uncle to Brian, Yvonne and Chris Winger.
Hap was well known as a body man and painter. He was very meticulous in his restoration of cars. He worked many years as a body shop manager.
Hap's passion in life was MOPAR and drag racing. His love was for his car “Thunder II” which he spent 13 years restoring. In his younger years this is where he formed life long friendships with many people. Hap had a special place in his heart for Newfoundland where he spent some of his childhood and visited often. To know Hap was to love him.
A special thank you to the Doctors and nurses at the Walker Family Cancer Centre. Also, a very special thank you to Dr. Scher for his loving compassion to Hap in his final days. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Walker Family Cancer Centre.
Arrangements entrusted to Benner Funeral Home. A celebration of life will take place on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at the Benner Funeral Home at 11:00 am.
