Aunt Betty was always fun to be with and I remember our sleepovers were so much fun. She always made sure we had a midnight snack before our early bedtime. I remember their family trip to Alberta to see us . RIP Aunt Betty. We’ll miss you

I grew up on the same street as the Colgan’s. Marylou and I are still friends to this day. Mrs Colgan (Betty) is the last of the woman on the St, at that time, to leave. As I got older she shared recipes with me and babysat my own daughter. My thoughts are with Marylou, Danny and the family. RIP Mrs Colgan.

We met Betty, when my Dad brought her and this cute little girl to Toronto, for our weekly visit with him. My siblings and myself were not given any notice that there would be a lady and her daughter joining us on our weekly outing.....the little girl looked at us through the backseat car window, as we took in the change of the regular routine......all was quiet when we entered the car...I do not remember a proper introduction...My siblings and I were to learn that Betty and her daughter Mary Lou would be a permanent part of the family. The Family grew to include Ed and Dan...We were officially .......Yours, Mine and Ours kind of Family.
Betty stepped up to the challenge of caring for four of my Dads children from a previous marriage, on summer vacation and on various holidays throughout the year. I remember kicking off my shoes when I arrived at their home for summer break, I would not put them back on until we left to go back to the Big Smoke to begin another school year. We were not always easy. However, Betty had a sense of humor, I am sure that helped her through some of the difficult times she endured. She cooked, cleaned and cared for us. All the while, allowing us to explore the neighborhood, with the neighborhood children. We learnt to ride our bikes there (on a gravel road) she would clean our cuts and scrapes at the end of the day and put a band-aid where it was needed.....It was a great place to be a child. The neighbors all knew each other, we made friends with the other children, who are now parents, and grandparents themselves. Betty took the time to teach us how to hand sew, one summer we made our own dolls. One of those neighborhood children who is in his 60s now, fondly reminisced of how Mrs. Colgan taught him how to sew. He gives credit to her when he finds he needs to repair a piece of his clothing.....
Betty was a special type of person, she had her share of hardships, however, she never lost her kind heart, her sense of humor, her wanting to please others and her sense of pride.
I know she will be remembered for these things.....she will hold a special place in a lot of peoples hearts.
Rest in Peace Betty, you deserve it.........
In my heart
Kathy Morgan (Colgan)
