Obituary
Obituary of James Arthur Thiel
Jim passed away with his daughters by his side at Douglas Memorial Hospital on April 16,
2020 at the age of 87 years. He leaves behind his 2 daughters Tanya and Robin; his dear sister
Wanda; his nephew Drew; his grandchildren Morgan, Emma, Samuel and Sophia; son-in-law
David; step-daughter Deanna and her husband Greg, their children, Madison and Mackenzie;
and his step-daughter Kelly and her husband Mark.
Jim is predeceased by his loving wife and travelling companion, Sherrin (nee Johnston) in 2012
having been together for 30 years. Jim is also predeceased by his first wife and mother of his
children, Doreen (nee Vince) who were married for 15 years. They spent a few of those years
living in New Brunswick where they had their 2 daughters and developed many lifelong
friendships, the most dear being with his pal Ivan Tees and his wife Cecile.
Jim spent his career as a draftsman and became part owner of a successful drywall and
accoustics construction company in the west end of Toronto. His success enabled dad to
indulge himself in his love of all modes of transportation including sports cars, RVs,
motorcycles, snowmobiles, quads and boats. No one had cleaner, faster or newer vehicles
than dad. He also enjoyed travelling to sunny destinations with a pool bar and across the
border to watch car races with Sherrin and friends. Dad was one of kind and left a lasting
impression on all those in his life.
A heartfelt thank you to his generous neighbours without whom Dad would not have been able
to stay in his home until his final days. We also want to thank Dr. Scher and the wonderful,
caring nurses at Douglas Memorial Hospital. Despite not being able to have visitors due to the
pandemic restrictions, the nurses did all they could to ensure that dad did not feel alone.
A celebration of Jim’s life will take place at a later date when family and friends are able to
gather. Condolences and warm messages may be made on the Benner Funeral Services website, where the family will be able to view them. For those who wish to remember Jim with a memorial contribution, please consider
donating to the Fort Erie Salvation Army foodbank or to your local foodbank.
